Does hayfever cause asthma?
There is a belief that severe hayfever turns into asthma. This is incorrect. Pollen can trigger asthma as well as hayfever. So while people assume that hayfever turns into asthma, what really happens is two separate occurrences. The airborne particulate matter which contains the allergens can work deep into the airways of the lungs. Humid weather and thunderstorms can also be a contributing factor. When the pollen granules come into contact with moisture, starches are released. These are so small that they can be breathed into the airways, causing asthma in susceptible individuals.
